What is a cluster?
Clusters are geographic concentrations of inter-connected companies and institutions in a particular field. Clusters encompass an array of linked industries and other entities important to competition. They include, for example, suppliers of specialized inputs such as components, machinery, and services, and providers of specialized infrastructure. Clusters also often extend downstream to channels and customers and laterally to manufacturers of complementary products and to companies in industries. Finally, many clusters include governmental and other institutions - such as universities, standard-setting agencies, think tanks, vocational training providers, and trade associations - that provide specialized training, education, information, research, and technical support.
NWtexnet is the "glue" which binds these activities and actions together.
The North West region "cluster" in reality:
In the North West region there are 450 companies involved in the technical textile supply chain. These companies cover a wide range of products and supply into a vast range of markets. In addition there are a number of support organizations, academic institutions and training bodies working in the region.
As the designated sector support body for the region we offer the members a vast array of information and knowledge delivered in a number of different ways.
We hold a quarterly industrial advisory panel, to listen to the views of the local industry.
Our membership of EURATEX allows us to lobby and represent the interest of the sector. We are also able to feedback to the sector relevant EU legislation and regulation.
We have a track record of delivering significant local, national and European funding into the region. This funding has helped deliver funding for plant, new buildings and investment in new processes.
